Volunteer physicians are the backbone of our organization.

Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of Hilton Head (VIM) doesn’t just treat illness—we change lives, uplift families, and strengthen our community.  

Week by week, we see more and more patients walk through our doors who do not have access to medical insurance or otherwise cannot afford coverage.  Without experienced physicians, VIM would not be able to deliver the medical care needed in our community.

In order to recruit and retain volunteers, VIM offers physicians flexible scheduling.  While we would love it if you could commit to weekly shifts, we understand that may not be your goal, especially if you are recently retired.  If you can see patients one day a month, that would be terrific!  If you can see patients one shift a week, even better.

Hilton Head Island is often seen as a wealthy community and vacation destination, but in reality, over 8 percent of the island’s population is living at or below the federal poverty level – that’s close to 3,200 people.
